Another winter's day on Long Island, another day of record warmth.
The thermometer hit 63 degrees Wednesday afternoon at Long Island MacArthur Airport, breaking the Feb. 1 record high of 59 degrees set in 1989, meteorologist Joey Picca said.
Temperatures topped out Tuesday at 55 degrees at 1:55 p.m. at the Ronkonkoma airport, breaking the old Jan. 31 record of 51 degrees set in 1988, the National Weather Service said.
The records go back to 1984.
Long Islanders Wednesday enjoyed temperatures more than 20 degrees above the norm for Feb. 1 of 38 degrees, he said.
At the Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, the mercury reached 63 degrees, eclipsing the old record of 62 set in 1989. Records there have been kept since 1949.
Still, don't look for record-setting temperatures Thursday, forecasters said, as highs are expected to reach only the mid-40s.
