Hello, folks. This is Joe Ostapiuk, and I’ll be filling in for Deborah the next couple of weeks while she’s on vacation.
So, let’s get to it.
A longtime East Northport staple is no more. Well, at least by name.
The Larkfield IGA supermarket has been replaced by a Farmer’s Market grocery store, run by a family that has nearly a dozen other food stores in New York City under the CTown Supermarkets brand.
The store on Clay Pitts Road opened July 1. It kept nine Larkfield IGA employees and added six others. The site also expanded its product offerings, Sam Abukoush, one of the store’s co-owners, told my colleague Tory Parrish.
Tom Reichert, who co-owned Larkfield IGA alongside his family, said the decision to close was personal.
“We were just downsizing as we were getting older,” he said.

"Jersey Shore" star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi LaValle will close her downtown Huntington boutique this fall. Customers can expect in-store discounts, according to an Instagram post from the Gerard Street store.
Huntington fell short in the 5th annual 7-on-7 Tournament of Bad Habits at Northport High School. Whitman beat Huntington in overtime in the football tournament that brought together eight Suffolk high school programs.
Suffolk County agreed to a $57.5 million settlement that repays drivers up to $36 for fees it tacked on to red light camera tickets.
