A warm and humid Sunday inspired large numbers to head to Long Island’s South Shore beaches and roads leading there were backed up with heavy traffic at midday and into the early afternoon.
Traffic was reported as very slow on the Great South Bay Bridge of the Robert Moses Causeway leading to Robert Moses State Park, according to the 511NY traffic site.
Southbound traffic on the Meadowbrook and Wantagh parkways leading to Jones Beach was likewise slow.
A previous crash on the eastbound Southern State Parkway between Exit 27N and Exit 28A was cleared, but residual delays continued, 511NY reported.

Photos from the beach showed big crowds at the shore.
