Both tubes of Hugh L. Carey Tunnel to reopen
Both tubes of the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel will reopen to traffic in both directions Monday at 6 a.m., Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Friday in a news release.
"While some off-peak closures may be necessary to continue making repairs, the good news is that this critical link between Brooklyn, Staten Island and lower Manhattan will once again be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week," Cuomo said.
Until further notice, the tunnel is still barred to trucks, the release said.
One tube of the former Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, which was flooded during superstorm Sandy, had already been reopened to buses and cars during peak morning and afternoon drive times, the release said.
