Two children and four others on board a minibus were injured Tuesday in Calverton after the vehicle was involved in a crash with an SUV, the Riverhead police said.
The driver of the SUV was also injured. All seven were transported to hospitals for treatment of non-lifethreatening injuries, according to a Riverhead Police Department news release late Tuesday.
About 2:50 p.m., officers responded to the crash at the intersection of New York State Route 25 and Route 25A, the police said.
Officers determined the minibus was heading west on State Route 25 when it "collided head on" with a Chevrolet Tahoe as the SUV entered the roadway from State Route 25A, the police said.
Two children on the minibus, three adult passengers, as well as its driver and the operator of the SUV, were transported to hospitals for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, according to the police.
The crash remains under investigation, police said. Any witnesses are asked to call Riverhead police at 631-727-4500. Calls will be kept confidential.
