A car carrier overturned on the Long Island Expressway near Syosset around noon Thursday, temporarily closing all lanes westbound and backing up westbound traffic for about a mile near Exit 44, according to the New York Department of Transportation.
By 4 p.m. all lanes had been reopened, Nassau police said.
Shortly before 2 p.m., the right westbound lane had been reopened while the HOV and left lanes had been closed to clean up the wreckage, Nassau police said.
The truck driver lost control of the vehicle and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said. No other vehicle was involved in the crash.
Shortly after noon, three cars laying on their sides, still attached to the carrier, had been visible from the eastbound lane.
Nassau County police said officers were dispatched to a call involving an overturned truck on the westbound LIE at 12:10 p.m.
