Newsday has launched a new fatality tracker as part of its yearlong series into Long Island's dangerous roads.

Newsday is launching a new digital feature that will tally traffic fatalities on Long Island’s roads this year.

The constantly updating fatality ticker is based on police reports. It is part of Newsday’s yearlong Dangerous Roads series, which draws attention to the many factors contributing to the high number of crashes and deaths on Long Island roads.

The multipart series has focused on mapping crashes on roads and at intersections, including the identification of five particularly dangerous intersections, and the significant human toll and financial costs of these crashes. The series also has explored the role of aggressive, impaired and reckless driving as major causes of these tragedies.
