LIE closures in Islip Town, DOT says
State Department of Transportation officials announced Thursday that travel lanes on the Long Island Expressway in the Town of Islip will be closed overnight for about three weeks.
Officials said that, starting Thursday night, mainline eastbound travel lanes between the Sagtikos Parkway (Exit 53) and Wicks Road will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
On Monday, westbound lanes will also be closed in the same area for the same time period.
Authorities said that the closures facilitate preventive maintenance repairs on the Sagtikos State Parkway Bridge over the Long Island Expressway.
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during the construction but those eastbound travelers who can’t will be detoured onto the LIE south service road. Westbound travelers will be diverted the LIE north service road, officials said.
Motorists may obtain 24-hour up-to-date traffic and travel information by calling 511 or visiting 511NY.org. In addition, travel information is available at the INFORM Transportation Management Center cameras at INFORMNY.com.
