The Long Island Expressway reopened late Friday after a single vehicle crash that seriously injured a woman.
About 3:05 p.m., the driver of a 2011 Honda was heading west on the expressway near Exit 52 in Dix Hills when the woman "lost control of the vehicle which left the roadway and overturned onto the entrance ramp," the Suffolk County Police Department said in a news release.
The woman, 38, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, police said.
For several hours after the crash, police closed all lanes of the highway's westbound lanes at Exit 53 to investigate. They were reopened Friday evening. Police impounded the vehicle for a safety check.
Detectives ask anyone with information regarding the crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
