LIE, Sunrise Highway overnight closures start next week

Two repaving projects will require nighttime road closures beginning next week, the state Department of Transportation announced.

The westbound side of the Long Island Expressway through Oyster Bay will be closed on weeknights for four weeks beginning Monday. The highway will be shut between Exit 43A (Robbins Lane) and Exit 40 (State Route 25/Jericho Turnpike) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. while the road is repaved. The HOV lane may also be closed beginning 9 p.m.

Travelers will be rerouted to the North Service Road for about 3 miles, and passenger cars may also use the Northern State Parkway, the transportation department suggested.

The westbound side of Sunrise Highway will also be closed between Exit 53 (State Route 112) in the Town of Brookhaven and Exit 51 (County Route 97/Nicolls Road) in the Town of Islip. Those repairs will take place on Monday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. and are expected to be completed that night.

Drivers can use the North Service Road for approximately 3.5 miles and then return to Sunrise Highway, the DOT said.
