A Baldwin man was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train late Thursday at the Baldwin train station, Metropolitan Transportation Authority police said.

The victim was 39 years old.

The circumstances surrounding the incident shortly before 10:30 p.m. remain under investigation by MTA police, but it appeared the death was not the result of an accident, a spokesman said.

As a result of the fatality, service was temporarily suspended.
