A 17-year-old girl was fatally struck by an LIRR train Monday afternoon, the MTA said.
The teen was hit by a westbound train about 2:33 p.m., an MTA spokesperson told Newsday via email. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene 22 minutes later.
An investigation remained underway, but MTA police did not suspect criminality Monday evening, the MTA spokesperson said.
No other injuries were reported. The approximately 150 passengers on board the train involved in the strike were safely removed from the railway cars, the MTA said.
The collision temporarily closed one of the tracks along the Babylon Branch, resulting in delays of more than one hour, according to the MTA. Service was restored in both directions shortly before 4 p.m. About 5:15 p.m., trains were running on or close to schedule .
