LIRR says service on or close to schedule after person on tracks

The LIRR was on or close to schedule after a service suspension due to a trespasser on the tracks west of Jamaica Station on Friday morning.

Service was suspended between Atlantic Terminal and Jamaica for about 15 minutes after 8 a.m., the LIRR said in a service advisory. NYC Transit cross-honored tickets in the area. 

The Long Island Rail Road said service was restored after the "apprehension" of the trespasser, but had delays in both directions for about an hour afterward, including up to an hour eastbound. Multiple trains were canceled.

The LIRR also warned of 10- to 15-minute delays and cancellations on the Long Beach Branch due to a broken rail near Oceanside for about two hours, until service returned to being on or close to schedule after 10 a.m.

Long Island Rail Road personnel have temporarily repaired the rail near Oceanside, the railroad said in a service advisory at 8 a.m. The railroad was forced to operate on one of two tracks starting about 6:30 a.m. Trains moved through the area after the fix at reduced speeds.

On Thursday morning, a broken rail near Mineola caused hours of delays and a service suspension, the LIRR said. The rail was repaired by the afternoon.
