The Long Island Rail Road said in a tweet just after 7:30 p.m. that its trains are "operating on or close to schedule" after hours of delays and cancellations following a switch problem near Mineola.

Service on the Huntington/Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma and Oyster Bay branches was completely suspended in both directions after the switch problem first emerged at about 4:30 p.m., according to the railroad.

Crews resolved the switch trouble within about a half hour, the LIRR said. Service was partially restored, but several eastbound and westbound trains were canceled afterward, and residual delays continued, the agency said.
