LIRR: Oyster Bay Branch restored after broken rail

Train service on the Oyster Bay Branch was restored Thursday afternoon after a broken rail in Mineola was repaired, the LIRR said.

Service had been suspended since the morning rush because of the broken rail, which had also caused delays of up to 15 minutes on the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches, the LIRR said.

Buses were provided for customers on the Oyster Bay Branch while crews made repairs to the rail, the Long Island Rail Road said. The branch was suspended at about 9:45 a.m., around an hour after the broken rail was reported.

Service was limited to a single track through Mineola and Merillon Avenue stations, causing the delays on the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches, the LIRR said. 

The LIRR website reports "good service" on all branches except Montauk, where there is planned track work, and Port Jefferson, which has signal-related delays.
