The LIRR is back to on or close to schedule through Jamaica station after earlier delays due to signal trouble, the railroad said late Thursday morning.

The scattered westbound delays of up to 10 minutes came after the Long Island Rail Road reported service was on or close to schedule into Penn Station after rush hour delays due to Amtrak trackwork in one of the East River tunnels.

The work wrapped up at about 7:10 a.m., and the delays of five to 10 minutes began about 7:25 a.m., according to LIRR service advisories. Service was back to normal by 9:30 a.m.

Separately, there were 5- to 10-minute delays through Central Islip due to signal trouble during rush hour. Crews repaired that issue by 9:20 a.m. and no more delays were expected related to it.

Monday was the first day of what is expected to be a five-month reduction of rush-hour LIRR service at Penn Station, where the latest phase of Amtrak’s infrastructure renewal project is shrinking track capacity by one track.

LIRR riders could find their regular trains more crowded than usual, diverted to a different location or canceled.

Amtrak’s work at Penn will focus on renewing tracks primarily used by the LIRR. The work marks the return of the construction-related outages at Penn that began in July 2017.
