LIRR: Service on or close to schedule
The Long Island Rail Road is operating on or close to schedule after widespread cancellations due to a person on the tracks, the railroad said.
The issues, which included the suspension of westbound service between Jamaica and Penn Station, were blamed on an "earlier trespasser on the tracks in the East River tunnels."
By about 10:40 a.m., the railroad had restored regular service between Jamaica and Penn Station, though with scattered residual delays, the LIRR said.
In service advisories sent starting about 8:20 a.m., the LIRR warned of westbound delays averaging 20 to 30 minutes and cancellations at Jamaica during the morning rush. At about 9:10 a.m., the railroad said westbound service was entirely suspended. Limited service was restored about 9:20 a.m. with hourlong delays and possible cancellations and diversions.
For hours, multiple trains heading in both directions were canceled or delayed.
NYC Transit is no longer cross-honoring tickets, the railroad said.
