LIRR: Service restored on Babylon branch after person hit by train

East- and westbound service on the Babylon Branch of the Long Island Rail Road was back on schedule by 9:12 a.m. on Monday, after about two hours of delays and cancellations that arose when travel was temporarily halted because a person was hit by a train east of the Baldwin station, the railroad said.

The approximately 3:50 a.m. collision caused the rail road to at first suspend service between Jamaica and Babylon as the MTA police launced their investigation.

Limited servce restarted on one of the branch's two tracks at around 5:50 a.m., the rail road said.

And by 6:20 a.m., "the LIRR was single-tracking and operating at a reduced speed with select cancellations through the area as police conducted their investigation," the LIRR said.
