Service restored on Port Washington Branch after track problem fixed, LIRR says

A track condition near Plandome that forced the termination of trains and the institution of substitute bus service on the Port Washington Branch of the Long Island Rail Road Monday afternoon has been fixed, officials said.
The LIRR said in a tweet at 2:14 p.m. that service has been restored between Port Washington and Great Neck. The earlier broken rail has been repaired and the 2:40 p.m. train from Port Washington due at Penn Station at 3:25 p.m. will operate as intended, according to the tweet.
Earlier, the railroad said the 11:49 a.m. train from Penn Station to Port Washington was terminated at Great Neck due to the track condition near Plandome, with riders accommodated by bus service between Great Neck and Port Washington.
All service on the branch had been suspended as a result of the track problem, with buses replacing service at Great Neck, Manhasset, Plandome and Port Washington, the railroad said.
The announcement come after the morning rush-hour commute was thrown into chaos by signal problems near Forest Hills.
That signal problem caused morning rush-hour train cancellations and 20-30 minute delays west of Jamaica before being repaired at about 9:30 a.m., Long Island Rail Road officials said. The LIRR said the railroad was experienced post-rush-hour delays of 5-10 minutes as a result.
The problems made a mess of the morning commute with delays affecting service of the Babylon, Far Rockaway, Long Beach, Port Jefferson, Port Washington, Hempstead and Ronkonkoma branches at various times during the rush, according to information on the railroad website.
