The Long Island Rail Road was operating on or close to schedule Wednesday evening after Amtrak switch trouble east of Penn Station had caused a swath of delays and cancellations across multiple branches, the MTA said.

By 9:15 p.m., the Amtrak issue was no longer disrupting LIRR service, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, MTA.

Amtrak officials said crews will be making repairs to C Interlocking, a connection of signals and switches east of Penn Station, Wednesday evening. Amtrack, the LIRR and New Jersey Transit all utilize these interconnected railway lines, according to an Amtrak spokesperson.

Repairs are "expected to be complete before the morning rush," the Amtrak spokesperson said in an email.

Earlier Wednesday, multiple trains from Penn to Ronkonkoma, Babylon and Port Washington were canceled. Trains along the Port Jefferson Branch were running 10 to 15 minutes behind schedule also due to the switch trouble.
