3 LIRR branches on or close after truck hits bridge, railroad says

Three LIRR branches were on or close to schedule Wednesday morning after a truck struck a railroad bridge on Nassau Boulevard in Garden City, restricting the speed of trains through the area, the railroad said. 

The Long Island Rail Road said inspection of the bridge was completed by 9:30 a.m. and trains were returning to normal speeds.

The Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches were on or close to schedule as of 10:15 a.m., the railroad said.

The delays on the branches, first reported after 8 a.m., ranged from 10 to 30 minutes for about two hours.

Individual trains also were delayed on other lines. All westbound trains made local stops between Hicksville and Jamaica stations for about an hour, the railroad said.

The bridge is among those scheduled to be replaced with a higher clearance in the third track project, the railroad said.
