The Long Island Rail Road is adding service for people traveling during the extended Independence Day holiday weekend.

On Friday, July 1, the LIRR will run 10 extra afternoon trains for customers leaving work early for the weekend.

The railroad will operate a normal weekend schedule on Saturday and Sunday. There will be no track work over that weekend or related service outages.

On July Fourth, the LIRR will operate on a weekend schedule, but with added return service from the Hamptons and Montauk that usually operates on Sunday.

In addition, the 7:28 a.m. train out of Montauk that usually operates on Mondays will instead run on Tuesday, July 5.
