Southampton: Engineer blared horn before man fatally struck by train
A 57-year-old man walking across LIRR tracks in Southampton failed to respond to an engineer's horn before a train struck and killed him, according to a Town news release Thursday.
Southampton Town officials identified the victim as Rodney Brumsey, of Southampton.
Brumsey was hit about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday by an eastbound train as he crossed a section of track east of the Moses Lane Long Island Railroad crossing, according to Southampton officials and the MTA.
As the man crossed tracks near a wooded area, the release said, he "did not respond to a warning horn signaled by the engineer. Unable to stop in time, the eastbound train fatally struck Brumsey."
The MTA Police, who are investigating, were not immediately available for comment Thursday night.
