A broken rail near Westhampton caused the Long Island Rail Road to suspend Montauk Branch service between Speonk and Montauk on Saturday morning, officials said.

LIRR workers fixed the rail by 11:40 a.m. and the branch was on or close to schedule, according to alerts from the railroad.

Bus service was made available between Speonk and Montauk. The suspension was announced just after 9 a.m., with the first indication of the broken rail in an alert after 8:20 a.m.
