A Farmingdale man was struck by an LIRR train Monday night and pronounced dead at a hospital, the MTA said.
About 7:34 p.m. Cameron William Zappolo, 21, was at the Merritts Road crossing in Farmingdale when an eastbound Long Island Rail Road train on the Ronkonkoma Branch hit him, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority told Newsday in an email.
Zappolo, who "was not authorized to be on the tracks," was transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead, police said. No other injuries were reported.
"A preliminary investigation, which included video review and witness statements, reveals no criminality is suspected," the MTA police spokesperson said.
The investigation is ongoing
Service on the Ronkonkoma Branch, which had been partially suspended east of Hicksville earlier, was on or close to schedule about 10:45 p.m., according to the agency’s website.
