LIRR: Gibson station pedestrian overpass replacement delayed a week

Plans to replace a pedestrian overpass at the Gibson Long Island Rail Road station in southern Nassau have been delayed by a week, officials said Friday.

The work, originally scheduled for Saturday, will now take place next Saturday, Nov. 10.

The LIRR said it dismantled and removed the old pedestrian bridge – which was primarily supported by wood and was nearing the end of its lifespan – in late October. The agency is replacing the structure with a new aluminum overpass, officials said.

On Nov. 10, buses will substitute trains between Valley Stream and Far Rockaway. Regular train service will operate at the Gibson station this Saturday, Nov. 3.

In the interim, the LIRR is urging customers using the Gibson station to allow sufficient time to cross the tracks at the grade crossing at Dubois Avenue.
