The Long Island Rail Road said service on a section of the Port Jefferson Branch was suspended for more than two hours Tuesday morning after a train struck and killed an unauthorized person on the tracks east of Huntington Station.

Service was suspended between Huntington and Port Jefferson, the railroad said in an alert to riders shortly after 5:30 a.m.

An alert at 7:40 a.m. said service had been restored.

Riders had been advised to use the Ronkonkoma or Montauk branches during the suspension.

The LIRR also advised riders that Port Jefferson Branch customers seeking alternate parking options on the Ronkonkoma Branch “may wish to consider the Wyandanch parking facility,” where there is a small fee, but no residency restrictions.
