LIRR: Temporary service suspension overnight after person hit, killed

A portion of the Ronkonkoma Branch was temporarily suspended early Wednesday after a person was struck and killed by a train, the LIRR said.
The Long Island Rail Road announced the suspension, between Brentwood and Ronkonkoma, in an alert at 12:43 a.m. The LIRR said an unauthorized person was struck by a non-passenger train west of Ronkonkoma station.
Service was fully restored at 2:38 a.m., the LIRR said.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokeswoman Nancy Gammerman later confirmed that the person struck — a woman in her 30s — had been killed.
MTA police are investigating the incident, which they believe was “nonaccidental” and did not involve any criminality, Gammerman said. The person’s identity was being withheld pending the notification of her family.
