LIRR’s Ronkonkoma line to be serviced by buses this weekend
Buses will replace trains this weekend between Ronkonkoma and Brentwood to accommodate the continuing construction of the double track project, the Long Island Rail Road said.
The change will be in effect from 12:37 a.m. Saturday to 12:21 a.m. Monday, the railroad said.
The double track project is expected to increase capacity along the 18 miles between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma. Completion is targeted for the end of 2018.
The LIRR issued the following advisory for passengers this weekend:
Westbound
Riders at Ronkonkoma and Central Islip will board a bus to Brentwood, then transfer to a train for service to points west. Buses will depart up to 34 minutes earlier than usual train times.
The 10:05 a.m., 11:05 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. westbound trains from Ronkonkoma will originate at Farmingdale. There will be no bus service from Ronkonkoma for these three trains. Riders at stations east of Farmingdale should board an earlier or later train (or board a bus at Ronkonkoma or Central Islip).
Greenport-Ronkonkoma trains will depart 21 minutes later than usual on Saturday and Sunday. At Ronkonkoma, riders will transfer to buses for service to Brentwood, where train service resumes.
Westbound riders should plan for up to 60 minutes of additional travel time, the railroad said.
Eastbound
Eastbound Ronkonkoma Branch trains will terminate at Brentwood.
At Brentwood, riders will board buses for service to stations Central Islip and Ronkonkoma. Medford-Greenport riders will also connect with buses at Brentwood.
The 4:39 p.m., 5:39 p.m. and 6:39 p.m. trains from Penn Station will terminate at Farmingdale with no connecting bus service farther east. Riders traveling east of Farmingdale should board a train 30 minutes earlier or 30 minutes later.
Eastbound riders should plan for up to 34 minutes of additional travel time, the railroad said.
