A Long Island Rail Road train struck and killed a person late Friday afternoon at the Seaford Station, causing delays and cancellations in both directions on the Babylon Branch until service was restored just before 5:30 p.m., the railroad said.

“Service is restored to both tracks at this time following the completion of the police department’s investigation,” the LIRR Twitter said.

The accident occurred about 3:36 p.m., and it temporarily forced the railroad to limit service to just one of two tracks, an LIRR spokeswoman said.

Delays were as long as 30 minutes, according to the LIRR twitter feed.

Police cars and two ambulances were photographed parked outside the Seaford Station.
