LIRR resumes normal service after morning disruptions on Babylon Branch

Service on Long Island Rail Road’s Babylon Branch returned to normal Wednesday morning after delays and cancellations during the early commute.
The MTA blamed a track defect near Rockville Centre. An MTA spokesperson said railroad officials expected to finish repairs by 11 a.m. The spokesperson did not specify the track defect but said it was likely minor.
Defects like kinks in the track are typically reported by train operators who feel a bump in the ride or by track workers, he said.
By 10 a.m., the Babylon Branch showed a 15-20 minute delay on the 8:44 a.m. train from Penn Station to Babylon. Shortly after, the railroad reported all lines were on or close to schedule.
Earlier, westbound trains from Babylon, Wantagh and Freeport were operating late and three were canceled, the railroad announced on its website. Impacted trains were bound for both Penn Station and Grand Central Madison. Delays averaged 15 to 25 minutes.
One eastbound train to Massapequa was canceled and one was operating late.
