Limited Long Island Rail Road service resumed on the Far Rockaway Branch between Valley Stream and Far Rockaway Friday morning after a track fire at the Woodmere LIRR station caused cancellations and delays, the MTA said.
Riders could expect delays of 15 to 20 minutes along the branch.
The fire started around 5:30 a.m. on the tracks west of the Woodmere station and was extinguished around 6:15 a.m., the MTA said.
All service between Valley Stream and Far Rockaway was initially suspended.
Limited service resumed around 6:20 a.m. on Track 1 in both directions at a restricted speed.
The station’s Track 2 remained out of service and the cause was still under investigation.
The MTA will continue honoring LIRR tickets on the A at Far Rockaway-Mott Av, its website said.
NICE Bus was continuing to honor fares for LIRR ticket holders who transfer to the N1 at Valley Stream for travel to Gibson.
For service between stations Hewlett to Far Rockaway, passengers should take a train to Lynbrook and transfer to the N31 and N32 bus, the website said.
Riders should continue to expect delays and cancelations and visit the the MTA website for updates and alternative methods to reach their destinations.
