Service restored on Babylon Branch after person on tracks struck, killed by train, LIRR says
LIRR service has been restored in both directions on the Babylon Branch and is operating on or close to schedule, railroad officials said.
Earlier Monday, trains were operating at a reduced speed through Baldwin after a westbound Long Island Rail Road train struck and killed a person on the tracks near Baldwin station.
Railroad officials had said the MTA police are investigating the circumstances.
Officials said the 7:11 a.m. train from Massapequa Park to Penn Station was the one involved in the fatal pedestrian strike.
Also Monday, the LIRR said service between Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal was operating on or close to schedule. Earlier in the day, service was suspended due to fire department activity near East New York.
