Long Island Rail Road train service has been fully restored after wires fell onto the tracks in Hicksville Tuesday morning, halting service for several hours and affecting more than 500 power customers, officials said.
The wires came down just before 8 a.m on Tuesday. The incident spurred cancellations on the Point Jefferson Branch between Hicksville and Huntington as well as other service changes, the railroad said.
The railroad said full service had been restored on both tracks in a social media message early Tuesday afternoon.
PSEG Long Island spokesman Jeremy Walsh said the issue was addressed in three phases between midmorning and early afternoon after PSEG "worked with the LIRR to make the area safe so personnel could remove the wires and make repairs."
"Power was restored to the majority of affected customers at 10:26 a.m., the wires were removed from the tracks a little before noon, and the remaining 87 customers were all restored by 12:54 p.m.," Walsh wrote in an email to Newsday.
The PSEG spokesman said the cause of the incident remains "under investigation."
