A 43-year-old man was struck and injured Tuesday morning by a Long Island Rail Road train entering the Rockville Centre station, disrupting service for nearly an hour on the Babylon Branch in both directions.
The man, who was brought to Mount Sinai South Nassau hospital, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's press office said. No criminality is suspected, and the man was not authorized to be on the train tracks, according to the MTA's press office, which did not elaborate.
The train, number 220, was going from Grand Central Madison to Babylon.
During the height of the morning commute, the MTA was reporting at least five westbound morning rush-hour trains had been canceled — three from Babylon, two from Wantagh. Two trains to Babylon — the 6:11 a.m. from Grand Central Terminal and the 6:27 a.m. from Penn Station — also had been canceled.
At least four other trains, three of them westbound, were being delayed for as long as 45 minutes, while others were being delayed by at least 15 minutes.
