LIRR service on the Long Beach Branch has been restored in both directions after a person was fatally struck by a train earlier Thursday night at the Lynbrook station, an MTA official said.

The victim was struck by the train at about 8:15 p.m. and pronounced dead at the scene, the official said. The circumstances of the victim’s death were still being investigated late Thursday night.

Long Beach Branch service had been halted between Lynbrook and Long Beach, the MTA said, and riders were accommodated by Babylon Branch trains stopping at Lynbrook and some eastbound Long Beach Branch trains rerouted to Freeport.
