All Long Island Rail Road ticket machines went back into service at about 10:45 a.m. on Monday, after the entire system went down at around 6 a.m., prompting the railroad to assure customers they would not be charged higher onboard fares, the MTA said.

The outages began at around 1 a.m., and then spread, forcing customers to choose between buying their tickets once they were aboard or using the MTA e-TIX app.

The technical issue that caused the breakdown has been resolved, and was not due to the cold weather, the railroad said.
