Trains back on time after cables damaged by fire cause 10-15 minute delays, LIRR says
Long Island Rail Road trains on the Babylon and Montauk branches were running on or close to schedule, the railroad said just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday while crews continued to repair signal wires damaged in a fire early in the day.
Sunday morning the LIRR said riders could expect 10- to 15-minute delays near Copiague because of the fire.
About 150 feet of cable was damaged, a Long Island Rail Road spokesman said. The overnight fire occurred at Marconi Boulevard and Wartburg Avenue in Copiague and was extinguished shortly before 2 a.m., the spokesman said.
The LIRR did not say what caused the fire. No injuries were reported.
