LIRR's Port Jefferson branch moving again after person fatally struck by train spurs delays

The Long Island Rail Road's Port Jefferson branch was on or close to schedule late Thursday, several hours after delays when a train fatally struck a man west of the New Hyde Park station.
The crash occurred about 3:10 p.m., when a westbound train on the Ronkonkoma branch, which also uses the New Hyde Park station, struck a man, 66, of New Hyde Park, a Metropolitan Transit Authority spokesperson told Newsday via email.
Nassau County EMS personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene, the spokesperson said. A preliminary investigation, during which MTA police reviewed video footage and conducted witness interviews, led authorities to determine criminality is not expected. The investigation remains underway.
No other injuries were reported.
Trains were running with "scattered delays" during the Thursday evening commute along the Port Jefferson line, with locomotives running up to 15 minutes behind schedule during the Thursday evening commute, according to the MTA website.
