Long Island Rail Road: On or close to schedule after delays on 3 branches

The Long Island Rail Road’s Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay and Ronkonkoma branches were on or close to schedule Tuesday afternoon after a broken rail near New Hyde Park was repaired.
Earlier there were delays of 5 to 10 minutes, the commuter rail service said in an advisory — the second day in a row that a broken rail has slowed the morning rush hour.
During Monday morning’s commute, there were delays and cancellations because of a broken rail near Cold Spring Harbor that slowed service. LIRR spokesman Aaron Donovan said at the time that the cause was under investigation but that broken rails are often correlated with bad weather.
Newsday reported in a story published Monday that the railroad's year-ending, on-time performance for last year was the lowest in almost 20 years.
