Meadowbrook drawbridge at Ocean Parkway reopens after malfunction

Weekend beach traffic hit a major snag on Sunday afternoon when the Meadowbrook Parkway drawbridge became stuck in the open position for four hours, according to the New York State Police.
An equipment malfunction on the Jones Bay Bridge on the northbound Meadowbrook Parkway shut down traffic in all directions before technicians could bring the span down to the closed position at 6:26 p.m., according to Trooper Brittany Burton.
The failure at the crossing occurred around 3:30 p.m. at the Ocean Parkway cloverleaf, causing all lanes to close on a hot and busy beach weekend.
It is unclear what went wrong. The Department of Transportation did not respond to a call seeking information.
In June, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $16 million in repairs for the nearby Fundy Channel and False Channel spans on the parkway. Fixes for the drawbridge were not mentioned in the funding.
