Man riding motorized minibike seriously hurt in Islip crash, police say

A man riding a motorized minibike was seriously injured in a crash in Islip Thursday, Suffolk County police said.
The 19-year-old was operating the bike westbound on the shoulder of Main Street around 6 p.m. when it struck a Chevrolet Traverse turning into the McDonald’s located at 107 Main St., police said.
He was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
