MTA approves NYC bus, subway cuts

New York City’s transit agency board has voted to approve a series of cuts that will eliminate one subway line and dozens of bus routes.
The service reductions will save $93 million a year. It’s part of an effort to dig out of a more than $400 million budget shortfall.
MTA chairman Jay Walder says the cuts were tough — but they had to be done. The vote came after members of the public spoke out against the cuts.
The board is also looking at eliminating discounted fares for students, but that proposal wasn’t considered Wednesday.
The subway line is the “W,” which runs in Queens and Manhattan.
