The LIRR will add extra stops at the Mets-Willets Point Station on the Long Island Rail Road next week, ahead of the U.S. Open, the MTA announced at a news conference on Friday morning.

Beginning Monday, the start of U.S. Open Fan Week, four additional trains on the Port Washington line will stop during weekday peak hours between 8:30 a.m. and 9:31 a.m., LIRR President Rob Free said at Billie Jean King Stadium on Friday.

In addition, all weekday westbound Port Washington trains have a scheduled Mets-Willets Point stop after 9:30 a.m., as do all weekend trains.

MTA officials encouraged attendees to take mass transit after last year's tournament had a record 1,048,669 attendees, surpassing the seven-figure mark for the first time, the U.S. Open website said.

"Last year, we set a record with ridership for fans attending the U.S. Open, and this year we hope to accommodate even more," Free said.

A total of 91 trains will stop at Mets-Willets Point during on weekdays and 81 on Saturday and Sunday, Free said.

The extra service will extend through the end of the U.S. Open on Sept. 7.

MTA chief customer officer Shanifah Rieara said, beginning Monday, the voices of notable tennis players — like 37-time Grand Slam champion and four-time U.S. Open women’s singles champion Billie Jean King, native New Yorker and doubles Grand Slam champion Patrick McEnroe, and Andy Roddick, the last American champion in the men's singles tournament — will be heard on platforms and in stations during the tournament.

Fans can also take advantage of five additional No. 7 subway train stops beginning Aug. 25 to supplement service after the last match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Seven Mets games will overlap with U.S. Open matches from Aug. 25 to 31, said Daniel Zausner, COO of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. During concurrent Mets home games, extra trains will run.

Zausner implored fans to take mass transit, especially on these dates.

"You do not want to be in the park, navigating through the park, to try and find parking when you've got this incredible mass transit system that can get you here faster," he said.

U.S. Open fans can check the MTA website at mta.info for train times and schedule changes.
