The LIRR has restored service between Central Islip and Ronkonkoma after a person was struck and killed by a train Monday evening at approximately 7:12 p.m.

A train from Penn Station heading to Ronkonkoma about 7 p.m. hit the victim on tracks near Pond Road in the hamlet, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Service on the tracks was suspended until 8:37 p.m. while MTA police arrived at the scene. The person was declared dead at the scene. The identity of the victim was not immediately available. 

Some trains were delayed and moved to other stations such as Hicksville and Deer Park en route to Penn Station, the MTA said.
