Storm causing hundreds of flight delays, cancellations at NY area airports

New York's metropolitan airports have seen significant delays and cancellations Monday amid heavy rains pounding the region.

As of about 4:45 p.m., Kennedy Airport had 429 delays and 158 cancellations. LaGuardia Airport had 465 delays and 225 cancellations, Newark Liberty International Airport reported 433 delays and 85 cancellations and Long Island MacArthur Airport had 27 delays but no cancellations.

Kennedy, LaGuardia and Liberty were among the 10 airports nationwide Monday that were experiencing the most delays and cancellations because weather or other factors, according to FlightAware's Misery Map.

So far, there are no significant delays anticipated at area airports.

The significant rainfall, which has caused flooding conditions on Long Island and elsewhere in the region, is expected to continue through early Tuesday before the sun breaks through.
