Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry warns of ticket scam

The Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry is alerting travelers to a fraudulent website selling fake ferry tickets, according to the company.

The company said it contacted law enforcement after receiving reports of a website selling bogus tickets.

"The only authorized tickets for our ferry service are sold directly through our website," the company said in a statement.

The ferry warned customers of third-party website or social media ads offering discounted tickets. "If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is," the website said.

Customers can purchase legitimate tickets and ask questions by visiting the ferry website at 88844ferry.com or calling 888-443-3779.

If you believe you have been scammed, the ferry service is encouraging customers to contact their bank or credit card company and report it to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Customers also should contact local law enforcement and file an internet crime complaint with the FBI at ic3.gov.
