Service restored between Port Jefferson and Stony Brook, LIRR says
A broken rail — which caused a service suspension on the Port Jefferson branch of the Long Island Rail Road between Port Jefferson and Stony Brook for most of the morning Wednesday — has been repaired and service restored, the railroad tweeted at 12:06 p.m.
The service suspension was first announced just after 7:30 a.m.
It was not immediately clear what caused the broken rail or how many trains were affected by the situation.
The railroad said residual delays of about 15 minutes were expected.
