The heavy rains across the region on Sunday morning caused the Long Island Rail Road to suspend service on the Far Rockaway branch and delays three branches.
The MTA announced in service bulletins that there were several minutes of delays on the Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson and Ronkoma branches, while bus service replaced trains on the Far Rockaway branch.
Flooding also caused the closure of Old Sunrise Highway in East Massapequa.
As of 6:57 a.m., 1.62 inches of rain had fallen on Republic Airport in Farmingdale, with two more inches expected in Nassau and Suffolk. An urban flood advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service said.
In addition to the weather-related delays, the railroad has planned maintenance on all weekends in August.
