A woman bound for Charlotte, N.C., breached a security checkpoint at the US Airways Terminal at LaGuardia Airport, forcing the area to be temporarily closed before she was located, officials told Newsday.

A Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman said when agents located the woman they found a 5-inch knife in her carry-on bag.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m., TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said.

The Port Authority, which operates the airport, said no the terminal area was not evacuated and no flights were delayed because of the incident.

The TSA said the woman entered "a secure area in Terminal C," the US Airways terminal, but did not say how she made it past security.

The woman, who was not identified, was turned over to Port Authority police, Farbstein said. It was not clear if the passenger was charged -- and the TSA said it is in the "process of reviewing the incident" to "determine if proper procedures were followed."
